Cooling lubricants or cooling lubricants (abbreviation: KSS) are used in production technology for cutting and forming on machine tools to dissipate heat and reduce friction between the tool and workpiece through lubrication. In some machining processes, they are also used to remove chips from the working environment by rinsing them off. A side effect of the cooling lubricant is the corrosion protection of the workpiece.
The machining accuracy also benefits from good cooling.
With water-mixed cooling lubricants, the evaporation of the water makes a significant contribution to cooling.
